Each course has its own grading policy, which is customizable in a number of ways. You can set up your custom grading via the Gradebook (from the left navigation bar), and then select Grading Policies:

Adjusting your policy is easy. Use the sliders or number field to change the weight of each policy category. You can edit current ones with the pencil icon, or click "Add New" to add more*.
Build a policy from presets provided by an Admin, or make your own. NOTE: Some categories may be required by your Admin; these will be marked as such, and you won't be able to edit or remove them. You will, however, be able to change their weight.
You can place coursework within any category you like. Because a category has its own weight, it will influence the weight of all coursework within it. See the Grade Weight article for more info.
*The Attendance category is tied to the Attendance module, if it is active in your course. As long as there is a policy category named "Attendance," the module will inform the grade for the category. If you add coursework to the Attendance category, the module will inform the grade for the "unused" portion of the category. In order to keep your grading policy simple and clear for your students, we recommend you don't put coursework in this category.
